Perth is one of the harshest places in the country for automotive paint. Relentless UV, coastal salt air and long summers break down clear coat faster here than in most Australian cities, and it shows on bonnets and roofs first.
Our Willetton workshop repairs paint that has faded, peeled, chipped or been damaged, from a single panel through to a complete respray. Localised damage is often better handled as car scratch repair instead — we'll tell you which you need./p>
Once the top layer starts flaking away in patches, no amount of polishing brings it back. The affected area has to be sanded down and re-cleared, because clear coat cannot be repaired in place.
Reds and dark blues lose depth first, turning chalky under Perth sun. Mild oxidation often responds to machine correction. Once the pigment itself has gone flat, repainting is the only real fix.
Freeway driving peppers bonnets and front bumpers with chips. Left alone, the exposed edges let moisture under the paint film, which is how a cosmetic problem becomes a rust problem.
Blisters along door bottoms, wheel arches and boot lips mean corrosion is working outward from underneath. We cut it out, treat the metal and repaint — sanding over the top just delays it.
We use paint systems and materials approved by the vehicle brands, dealerships and insurers we work with across Perth and Western Australia.
On paintwork that matters more than most services, because the wrong system fails years before a proper one does.
Some of the brands and insurers we frequently work with include:
Paint pricing tracks how much surface has to be prepared, masked and sprayed — plus the finish itself, since metallics and pearls take longer to match than solid colours. Indicative Perth ranges are below.
| Repair Type | Estimated Price | Average Time |
|---|---|---|
| Machine Paint Correction (Full Car) | From $350 | 1 day |
| Bumper Respray | From $350 | 1–2 days |
| Single Panel Respray | From $450 | 1–2 days |
| Two-Panel Repair & Blend | From $800 | 2–3 days |
| Closed-Door Full Respray | From $3,500 | 1–2 weeks |
| Full Respray with Colour Change | From $6,500 | 2–3 weeks |
Most paint work is localised — one panel, one bumper, one corner. The skill is making the repaired area disappear into the paint around it rather than sitting there as a slightly different shade. We handle:
Where paint damage sits alongside dented or misaligned metal, the panel work happens first — that's quoted under smash repairs and completed before anything reaches the spray booth.
A full respray suits cars with tired paint across every panel, damage spread over multiple areas, or an owner who wants a different colour entirely. There are two ways to approach it, and the choice matters:
Closed-door only works if you're keeping the same colour, since untouched jambs would still show the old shade. Changing colour means going open-door, and that's a considerably bigger job.
Not every tired-looking car needs repainting. Sometimes the colour underneath is sound and the surface just needs correcting, which costs a fraction of a respray. Worth checking before you commit either way:
Keeping paint protected is far cheaper than repairing it, which is the whole argument for regular UV care and maintenance on a car that lives outdoors in Perth.

Bring the car in and we'll tell you honestly whether it needs correcting or repainting. Plenty of cars written off as "needs a respray" only needed a proper machine polish.
If you're comparing quotes elsewhere, ask each workshop which paint system they've allowed for. That one question explains most of the price gap you'll see.
Almost always the paint system. A single-stage acrylic job is cheaper because the colour and gloss come from one coat, but it fades noticeably within a few years in Perth conditions. A two-pack, or 2K, system sprays colour and then a separate clear coat over the top, which resists UV far better and typically holds up seven to fifteen years. Ask any workshop which one their quote covers before comparing prices.
Machine paint correction on a full car starts around $350. Single panel resprays begin near $450, two-panel blends around $800, and closed-door full resprays from roughly $3,500. Colour changes are the expensive end, usually $6,500 upward, because every cavity and door jamb has to be painted too.
Fading can sometimes be corrected if the pigment beneath is still sound. Peeling cannot. Once clear coat starts lifting, the bond has failed and polishing only removes more of it — the panel needs sanding back and re-clearing to fix properly.
That's the goal, and it takes more than reading a paint code. Existing paint fades over time, so we tint against the actual panel and blend into the adjacent ones so there's no visible edge.
Closed-door paints the visible external panels and skips the jambs, boot interior and engine bay. It's cheaper and works well when you're keeping the same colour. Changing colour requires the full open-door job.
Leave it two to four weeks before any wax or sealant, and avoid automatic car washes and high-pressure jets during that time. Fresh paint keeps hardening after it leaves the booth.
